The Challenge

The Zomi community faces targeted harassment, hate speech, and discrimination in digital spaces. This includes derogatory comments, cultural attacks, and the spread of harmful stereotypes that undermine Zomi dignity and identity.

These forms of digital aggression can have real-world impacts, affecting mental health, community cohesion, and the ability of Zomi individuals to freely express their cultural identity online.

Systematically tracking and documenting instances of anti-Zomi content across social media platforms, news sites, and forums to build evidence for advocacy.

Coordinated Reporting

Mobilizing our volunteer network to report harmful content to platform administrators using effective evidence-based approaches that increase removal rates.

Awareness Campaigns

Creating and sharing educational content about the impact of online harassment and the importance of respectful digital discourse.

Victim Support

Providing resources, guidance, and emotional support to community members who have experienced online harassment or hate speech.

The Challenge

Many in the Zomi community, particularly elders and those with limited access to digital education, face challenges in safely navigating online spaces. This can lead to vulnerability to scams, privacy breaches, and difficulty identifying misinformation.

As digital platforms become increasingly important for education, community connection, and accessing services, ensuring that all community members have the skills to use these tools safely is essential.

The #CyberSafeZomi campaign focuses on building digital literacy and security skills throughout the Zomi community through accessible, culturally relevant education. Our strategy includes:

Community Workshops

Conducting in-person and virtual workshops on essential digital skills, online safety, and recognizing misinformation, with content available in multiple Zomi dialects.

Educational Resources

Creating accessible guides, videos, and infographics on topics like password security, privacy settings, identifying phishing attempts, and fact-checking information.

Peer Support Network

Training community tech ambassadors who can provide ongoing support and guidance to community members facing digital challenges.

Security Tools Access
